The youngest recipient of the National Film Award, Monisha was truly the gem of malayalam cinema. She  made her presence known with her very first film. She was only 15 years old when she won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her debut film, Nakhakshathangal (1986). This made her the only actor to get a National Award for the debuting film.

Her mother, Sreedevi was a dancer and Monisha ws also trained in dance right from childhood. She did her first stage performance when she was 9.

Monisha continuded her sparking performance in Perumthachan (1990), Kadavu (1991) and Kamaladalam (1992). She had also acted in tamil and Kannada movies.

Monisha was working for the Malayalam film Cheppadividya when she died. On December 5, 1992, a car carrying her and her mother was in an accident Cherthala, Alappuzha. Her mother escaped with minor bruises, but Monisha suffered a severe brain shock with minor external bruises, injuries from which she died.
