Sakhi

Sakhi, meaning 'woman friend' is an informal collective of feminists who shared a common vision. It was initiated in 1996. It is born out of a consciousness for the need to work with women and on women's rights in a highly patriarchal and deeply political society. It is a space, for women to come together, share their pains, anxieties, pleasures and fun.

Mission & Vision

Integrating class, caste ecological and gender perspectives in all programmes and involvements and envision a society based on political, economic and social justice.

Objectives

    To contribute to the establishment of a society without any discrimination and exploitation based on caste, class and gender.
    Strive to identify and transform the historical and cultural roots of such discrimination.
    Sensitizing both men and women towards developing relations of mutuality and equity.
    To bridge the gap between national and international debates on feminist thought between local and global events around feminist praxis amidst groups of women working at the grass root level in Kerala.
    To share information and strengthen the capacities and capabilities of grassroots level women's groups and women.
    To mainstream gender in the political discourse in this state.
