Top companies prefers more women with high pay package than men

indian-female

In  a recent placement season of Indian Institute of Mangement-Kozhikode IIM (K) , it has been noticed  that the big corporate prefers to hire  more women  in the firms  rather men. Normally ,the students who pass out from the college are entitled to  get  a pay package of Rs  12.31 per annum. But this time ,  girls have been  hired for Rs 13.l7 lakh and boys  Rs 11.82 per annum.
Many premier B-school campuses are now confirming the trend of corporates specifically looking for women when they come down for placements. All because the companies are also bound to fulfil the diversity criterion in their recruitment as much as the B -schools are during admissions.
Talking to the media , Debashis Chatterjee,director,IIM-K   said  that  when you go to the  market , you may prefer to buy  a product at higher price only when there is both  shortage of supply and  higher demand  .The same logic applies here. The female students  are scarce  in nature  and has been  demanded for the diversity of skills they bring in. But its a market decision and as an institute we have no role in it.
IIM-B has not done a salary analysis based on the gender, but confirms the trend for choosing girls. There are companies that say they would like to see more women. When all the points are equal between two candidates, there are corporates  that chose the girl candidate, said Sapna Agarwal, head, career development services at IIM-Bangalore.
To support this statement, Mr.  V. K Menon, senior director, career admissions of  Indian School of Business (ISB),Hyderabad  had also stated that there are some conventional companies that had men in higher roles want to bring a more equal gender ratio. They search for women in the campuses.
In a unique recruitment programme by Axis bank, the organization picked up 12 women for various roles from ISB campus. The Women Leadership Program is about building a diversified leadership talent pipeline within the bank.
The salary differential is higher for women than men in ISB.That is,the salary with which female students walk out is much higher than what they were earning before joining the institute. The average outgoing Cost To Company for women is 2.8 times the average.
